Philippe’s has a reputation for being active in the Los Angeles community and this holiday season is no different for the Chinatown restaurant.
This week, the Philippe’s management team donated $1,000 to the Los Angeles Police Protective League (LAPPL) for their inaugural Operation Blue Christmas to help families in great need have a better holiday season.
Philippe’s $1,000 donation will help the LAPPL purchase gifts, toys and more so families in need – financial or health-related – can have what they wouldn’t be able to, otherwise.
This year’s program is specifically benefiting five families and on top of the donation check, Philippe’s added a $100 Philippe’s gift card for each of the families so they can enjoy a meal out and indulge in Philippe’s French Dipped sandwiches, sides, desserts and more.
About Blue Christmas
Community officers identified the families for Operation Blue Christmas, which the donations (both monetary and gift cards) from league members, private companies such as Philippe’s and more will benefit. The program was designed after New York Sergeants’ Benevolent Association which began in 2012.
The LAPPL is also asking for the community’s help through $10-$20 gift cards that can be placed in several community drop boxes, including

Home of the French Dipped Sandwich
Philippe’s is home of the Original French Dipped Sandwich, the most popular being the beef double-dip, which consists of roast beef on a freshly baked French roll dipped in the natural gravy of the roasts.
Philippe’s was established in 1908 by Philippe Mathieu and is one of the oldest and best known restaurants in Southern California. In 1918, Mathieu dropped a sliced French roll into the roasting pan filled with juice from the hot oven and the rest is history.
