Philippe’s is celebrating 110 years in business, while the French Dip is celebrating its centennial. In 1918, the restaurant’s original owner, Philippe Mathieu, inadvertently dropped the sliced french roll into the roasting pan filled with juice still hot from the oven and the rest is history.
